Why performance belongs in the design system

Speed is not a final audit. It is a design constraint that should shape every surface from the first sketch.

Performance decisions become expensive when they arrive after the visual system is locked. Asset weight, type scale, motion density, and component boundaries all affect how a product feels in the hand.

We set performance budgets beside the design tokens, then validate them with real route transitions and real content. That keeps the work expressive without making the user wait for the expression to appear.

The practical benefit is simple: a faster product gives every later design decision more room to work.
